Julie is an emerging photographer to watch. Her photographic work is rooted in storytelling, beauty and intricacy – basically, awe inspiring imagery!
She captured our intrigue with a photo shoot she was doing up north. Needing the hands of the Vada Creative Team – Julie produced a collection of dark, beautiful, and romantic images that linger in your mind long after initial viewing.
We asked the shutterbug to turn her camera on herself and provide us with a few words…
I am Julie Huang and I have been working in commercial photography for about 2 years and shooting for just over a year of that.
I studied in Graphic Design which also became my introduction to photography. By the end of my degree I realised I didn’t want to be a graphic designer at all and that I just wanted to take photos!
I took a couple of photography related jobs after uni, but made the real leap forward when I started interning for a fashion photographer which then led to me working as an assistant for other photographers in the field of fashion and advertising.I still assist but am gradually finding more opportunities to shoot and love the variety from balancing both.
I enjoy working on personal projects the most where I have control of a concept from start to finish and I also love collaborating with other creatives as well. The best part of what I do is meeting other like-minded creatives like the team at VADA who are equally as passionate about creating a beautiful finished result… I love having a vision and then seeing it come to life through the skill and unique perspectives of everyone within the team!
WE CAN’T WAIT TO WORK WITH JULIE AGAIN! LOVE LOVE LOVE!! XXX

A Veteran of hairdressing seas Eric maintains a steady course heading and steering the Vada team and we are so damn happy to have him!!!
As the first and often the last point of contact for each one of our valued clients, Front of House plays a pivotal role in the day-to-day running of our salon business. From answering telephone calls to keeping stylists’ columns running smoothly and giving great product advice, this job is all about client and staff liaison – certainly not for the faint at heart!
We look forward to you meeting our Front of House Manager – Eric. In the meantime a few words from our new Vada crush…
I originally trained as a hairdresser, but for the last 10 years I have been working at the business end of the salon.
I’ve worked in Front of House and Management positions in Salons in Wellington, Ponsonby and Takapuna. Now I’m thrilled to have made the move into Central Auckland to join the team at Vada.
A little bit about me: Hmmmm…. People always seem to want to define you by a list of your interests or hobbies don’t they?
I’m always tempted to put something like 18th Century French poetry in an attempt to appear cultured, but I don’t fancy looking like an idiot the day I come across someone who’s an expert on the subject.
At the risk of sounding extremely vague, I will say I am a little bit interested in everything – Just please don’t quiz me on anything.
Any notion I might have previously had about getting a new hobby is pretty much out the window now that my girlfriend and I have recently had our first child. So whilst I wouldn’t describe changing nappies as a “hobby” of mine, it is none the less a time-consuming activity.
I pride myself on having a pretty good memory for names and faces, so I’m hoping it won’t be too long before I can get to know you all a little bit better.
If there’s anything I can do to help you out, please don’t hesitate to ask.

Edward Stothers is an emerging fashion label run by Paul Edward Stothers, a Vada local and regular fade model (Just don’t touch the top knot!)
Featured in magazine editorials for Vogue Italia, Collectif , LadyGunn and Apparel; the Auckland based label draws inspiration from street wear, underground culture and high fashion to create a modern sports luxe feel.
Vada’s Engine Room – Senior Stylist, Stephanie Furlong was on location and created the hair art direction showcased in Paul’s latest collection.
The ‘Ex Nixor Adveho Vires’ collection will be available for an exclusive time at the new Edward Stothers studio and showroom, a 3 month artist residency in collaboration with Victoria Park Markets. The showroom can be found at shop 7, Victoria Park Markets from late January till mid April.
Find out more about Edward Stothers at www.edwardstothers.com
Edward Stothers Spring / Summer 2014 collection ”Ex Nixor Adveho Vires” features a mix of deconstructed denim pieces, sportswear staples and inventive jumpsuits and dresses in a fresh white, silver, grey and blue colour palette.
The denim pieces were acid washed by hand in the Edward Stothers studio and are juxtaposed with grey marl to great effect. The iconic bomber jacket has been reworked in white denim and leather and the striking silver coated linen pieces complete the collection.
