Vada sponsored a truly star-studded line-up Thursday night to support the Element Celebrity Charity Auction. The Element team, which is walking 100km as part of the 2014 Oxfam Trailwalker, raised $13,000 on the night.

The Britomart Country Club filled up quickly with stars and generous bidders who parted with their hard earned cash to support Oxfam.

Stephen Johnson from Harcourts Cooper & Co Real Estate proved yet again why he is one of the best auctioneers in Auckland. Building single dates from $50 to $2000 is quite a rare talent and very entertaining to witness.

MC Jo Holley engaged the audience wonderfully and supported with the auction by reinforcing the details of each unique celebrity up for sale.

Martina Organics

We are very excited to have Martina Organics in the salon.  Before we embark on the journey to beautiful looking skin – we want to big ups the Wellington Lady who makes this beautiful range … we have to say… Marta is a very clever woman and we are thrilled to support her passion and her business.Martina - Brand Guidelines-03

It’s the simplicity of nature; it’s what your skin craves.  It’s all the things you want in a skincare regime.

Hand blended in small batches, Martina Organics is an artisanal skin care range using certified organic ingredients.

Selected from New Zealand and more exotic locales like Morocco, Japan, Africa and Isreal, Martina bontanical oils harness the power of plants that have been used by civilizations for hundreds of years.

All Martina Organics use the finest pure, fresh and healthy ingredients.  Their active ingredients don’t just feel delicious on the skin without all the nasty synthestics, preservatives or chemicals, they are proven to heal, revitalize, protect and condition your skin.

This beautiful superlative boutique organic skin care range is stylish, simple and unisex. Packaged in recycled paper, these thick square glass bottles are better for the environment and the label peels right off so you can re-use the bottle in any way you like.

Marta Organics-4

For those unaware of the amazing properties of facial oils, there are a multitude of benefits.  Don’t worry about feeling greasy.  Botantical oils have a small molecular structure that is similar to the skin, which makes them easily absorbed.  They’re rich in healthy skin essentials such as moisturising fatty acids, including omega-3, -6 and -9, which strengthen the skin’s lipid layer, preventing water loss, plumping the skin and stopping the signs of aging.

Typical skin creams contain around 70 percent water, so preservatives, chemicals and perfumes are added to many of them to eliminate bacterial growth, increase shelf life and create a nice scent. However, the additives also increase the chances of skin irritation and allergic reaction. Pure plant oils like Martina Organics, on the other hand, do not contain preservatives or synthetic fragrances, so instead of irritated, your skin is soothed and restored.

Those with oily skin and acne may shudder at the thought of spreading oil all over their face, but plant based oils are actually non-comedogenic, meaning they’re not likely to clog pores and cause breakouts. In fact traditional cleansers and exfoliators strip the skin of its natural oils, causing dehydration, which can lead to overproduction of sebum. Excess sebum can create clogged pores and eventually breakouts. Finally, if your skin is particularly dry, the richness of oils are ideal to achieve a velvety soft skin texture.

Marta Organics-2Oil Cleanser – $89

Designed to both heal and hydrate, the Oil Cleanser melts away impurities, makeup and excess sebum without stripping the skin of moisture. Argan, manuka and hemp fight acne inflammation and treat blemishes. Jojoba unblocks pores. Marula and jasmine reduce redness and scarring. While almond and apricot soften and camellia hydrates and replenishes. Ideal for removing eye makeup. Unisex and suitable for all skin types.

Application – Soften your face, neck and décolletage area with warm water then gently massage a small amount of Oil Cleanser in a circular motion with clean fingertips. Use morning and night; rinse off well using a face cloth and warm water.

Marta Organics-3Toner – $72

A soothing blend of antioxidant rich rosewater, anti-bacterial manuka, witch hazel to remove excess oil and sebum, reduce blemishes and tighten pores, and jasmine to reduce redness. This toner is best used after cleansing. Also use during the day for an immediate moisture boost and to hydrate facial skin. Unisex and suitable for all skin types.

Application – Spray a few times onto a cotton pad; wipe face, neck and décolletage area morning and night after cleansing.

Marta Organics-1Moisturiser – $99

A sumptuous blend to soften, protect and renew. Evening primrose, argan and hemp heal irritations and target signs of aging. Baobab improves elasticity. Jasmine and manuka work to repair and protect, marula reduces redness and scarring while camellia and macadamia provide conditioning for silky smooth skin. Can be used around the outer eye area. Unisex and suitable for all skin types.

Application – Gently massage a small amount of Moisturiser in a circular motion with clean fingertips onto your face, neck and décolletage area morning and night after cleansing and toning.

Martina is the name that Marta Maria Camara’s parents called her as a child. Born in Lisbon, Portugal, she moved to Wellington with her family when she was two and very recently moved to Auckland.

Marta learnt early on from her mother Ana that the key to beautiful skin is a truly holistic approach and the secret to looking good comes from feeling good. Ana’s methods of eating a fresh plant based diet, drinking plenty of water, incorporating massage, surfing, yoga, and lots of sleep, go hand in hand with an organic beauty regime that considers the health of both mind and body and eschews chemicals and synthetics. The lessons from her childhood coupled with Marta’s training as a beauty therapist have been fundamental in the development of Martina Organics.

While working at Nature Unplugged in the early 2000’s, Marta began to understand the rich potential of oils like Camellia, used by Japanese Geishas for restoration and rejuvenation, Argan oil from Morocco, which holds age defying properties and natural antioxidants, Marula oil from South Africa, cherished for its ability to hydrate and reduce redness, Hemp seed oil from Canada, well known for its potent ability to provide the body with essential fatty acids like omega-6 and omega-3, and many more.

For Marta, creating superlative oils is not just a business; it’s a passion.Woods

The Botanist

March 13, 2014 § Leave a comment

Rebekah Mason has been the Botanist behind the floral arrangements at Vada for the past two years… creating our statement pieces you always remember.

Now we are offering Rebekah’s well-designed terrariums that are full of tiny self-contained garden systems that require little care.

Plant terrariums are a safe enclosure for succulents, cacti, some herbs and flowering plants. Once used in Victorian times to protect tropical plant specimens by ship have over time gained popularity for home use to grow and display plants that require a controlled environment.

In urban homes or apartments with limited space for gardening, a plant terrarium makes an ideal growing space.

Offerings of four styles at Vada:

  • Curious Jar  $128.00
  • Life in a Bubble  $113.00 – Medium
  • Life in a Bubble  $78.50 – Small
  • Agee Jar $28.00 – Small

The Botanist offers personalised wedding service – whether your dreaming of vintage, modern, classic or crisp them to your flowers she is there to help. For more information check out:  http://botanistflowers.co.nz/

Erina Emery is an emerging designer and 100% NZ made – which we think is pretty cool.

Another cool thing is you won’t find her fashion brand in shops – Erina Emery clothing is available exclusively from hand-picked agents.

Erina Emery is a vibrant fashion brand with a mix of interesting tailoring and beautiful prints and fabrics.  We took some time with Erina and chatted about her latest collection…

Erina Emery Winter 2014 – “In The Spotlight”

The Erina Emery Winter 2014 collection “In The Spotlight” is my first winter collection, and there are some beautiful pieces you won’t want to miss.

The Retro Circus theme was inspired by the gorgeous Winter Fabrics I sourced, with leopard prints, mesh tops and tuxedo pants.

My personnel favorites – “In The Spotlight Dress” in vibrant orange and “The Ringmaster Pant”.
