On getting into hair styling :

I started when I was just 16 years old, it has been a true calling vocationally for me. I haven’t looked back a day since.

On what he loves about the job:

So there’s the people and then more  people …..and some fashion in there too.I love to see my clients  leaving Vada looking  great and that resonating into them feeling great about them10422357_374143256112758_5913678351791327243_n.jpgselves- its a real booster.  I also love that no two days are ever the same, being at Vada that’s so relevant as we always have different projects, shows & of course busy days with our clients, its an ever changing landscape for me and I love the diversity that brings.

On his top hair styling products:
R & Co are an iconic new brand that we partner with at Vada. This range is cruelty free, free of nasties,it’s vegetarian and mostly vegan apart from a product with beeswax. It’s also a high performing range that delivers- lovin that!

On his icons:

Definitely  Vivian Westwood- shes quirky, defiant and delivers powerful design. Her garments demonstrate  tailoring at its highest level which shows how important quality is to her.  I’ve always loved Kate Moss and PJ Harvey – two important faces in pop culture  with their own unique sense of style which sets them apart from the masses.
FullSizeRenderOn the big hair trends :
Blunt baselines – nuff said- unless to say, add some loose shaken up layers to the interior shape for movement- lovely stuff.

With colour I’m working with palettes of tobacco, gold and rose golds for autumn  . I like to merge tones,to create seamless lights through the hair.

made yourself at home already we see ; ) ….

sea salt hair

hey gypsy chic…… its beach time so forget the hot tongs and put your hair up in loose buns and messy braids – loose styles cause less tension on the hair and provide less surface area exposure to the sun.

Sea salt sprays are perfect for beach hair, or make your own with made with 1 tsp sea salt and 1 tsp coconut oil, mixed with water in a small spray bottle. Add a few drops of sandalwood essential oil.

We like: O & M Surf Bomb and Davines This is a Sea Salt Spray

pomanders ….

December 16, 2015 § Leave a comment

The pomander, a clove-studded fruit, is a traditional Christmas ornament and New Year’s gift. The word pomander comes from French pomme(which means apple) Apples and oranges were filled with spices and herbal mixtures to ward off disease & were also a token of prosperity and good luck which became the custom in the 17th century.

Many of us will remember an orange in the toe of our Christmas stocking and thinking it was in there to take up space, but actually the orange represented the ancient custom of giving this symbol of riches and good luck.
Dehydrated orange slices tied with twine also make wonderful Christmas garlands.

we love the idea of making natural decorations, heres another upcycle idea for the festive season…christmas recycle.jpg

Five minutes with our new Art Director Danni Falconer

So you do hair ?

Ive been styling my way around NZ Auckland salons for a number of years and then I went off to explore the world, snipping my way around Australia and the UK, most recently working for some high end Melbourne salons Biba and Salon XVI working with a busy clientle . I’ve also been pursuing freelance opportunities to get in amongst that creative process.

You’ve been on intrepid journeys recently?

Ive had an ahhmaazing  time travelling around the Mediterranean, working as a hairdresser  on board super yachts, ( not too shabby)  an invaluable experience as far as high end customer service goes, but also awe inspiring to immerse myself in a different culture and see that beautiful and colourful part of the world.

Where is home?

Home is back here in Auckland and my new home at Vada ! I’m very excited to be back in Auckland and re connecting with my family, friends and clients.

Career highlights?

Working on shows in Paris, UK, Melbourne, Sydney and NZ

Session Stylist for the GHD Team in Australia

Speaking at an intercoiffure conference

Working in the industry for 15 years and loving it

More to come …. ; )

Welcome to Vada Danni xxxx
